A good day to hit the slopes

Saturday was all about digging out for many people across the Hudson Valley. Once they finished working, folks headed out to enjoy the elements. Christian Farrell was out on the slopes and brings us more.

MONTICELLO, N.Y. - "It's actually a perfect day," said Austin Hill of New York City.

There weren't too many skiers on the mountain who would argue with that assessment. About a foot of fresh snow made for ideal conditions at the Holiday Mountain Ski and Fun Park in Monticello.

"It's a beautiful sunny day after a snow storm and we're doing very good business today," said Kevin Monahan of the Holiday Mountain Ski and Fun Park.

"My mom said after the snow, we're going to go skiing. I'm fine with that," said Brandon Manconi of Rock Hill.

Someone else who's fine with spending a day on the slopes is Jay Heimowitz, 75, of Bethel.

"Get out and enjoy the fresh air. I love it," said Heimowitz.

They say fresh snow is ideal for beginners, those snowboarders and skiers who tend to fall a lot.

"This stuff is amazing. It's really fluffy. It's almost like West Coast snow today," said Monahan.

Soft and fluffy may be good for first timers. But it didn't help Fanny Trung all that much.

"I hit a tree," said Trung.

Hitting a tree is definitely not soft and fluffy, but all in all, this day for most on the mountain, was a day to cherish.

"If it could be like this 365 days a year, that would be heaven," said Andy Concors of Rock Hill.
