CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- The Albany County and Rensselaer County Sheriffs’ Departments are holding "Operation Safe Child” events this weekend.

The events will give parents the chance to have their children fingerprinted and have their picture taken. Information like height, weight, and eye color will be recorded into a database.

Deputies say this information is essential when locating a missing child. Parents will be given an identification card with their child’s photo and information on it.

The first event is being held at Albany County Hockey Training Facility on Albany Shaker Road in Loudonville. The second is at the Knickerbocker Ice Skating Rink on 103rd Street in Troy. Both events are free and will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
