LIBERTY, N.Y. -- It was a staple in the community for more than 42 years, but the beloved Liberty Lanes is in its final days.
Now the alley is selling off balls, bags, shoes and other memorabilia.
Owned by the Fix family since the 1970's, Bobby Fix Jr. says the alley once enjoyed crowds of customers when the area was packed with resorts and hotels.
Although the owners describe bowling as one of the few activities left for entire family to enjoy together, they say they simply can't afford to stay open.
People throughout Sullivan County say they are sad to see it leave the community.
Liberty native Jackie Carman said, "This was a big part of my life growing up. We started on the little leagues and the then the teenage league and then I worked here for a few years before I went off to college."
Town of Narrowsburg resident Mike Aumick said, "Some of the best times I’ve had since I moved up here have been right here. It’s just a lot of laughs, a lot of good times, and it’s going to be missed."
The Fix family will continue to sell off memorabilia from the alley throughout the weekend.
