President's Day brings a week long recess for many kids in the Capital Region. So what are parents to do to keep them occupied? Our Lori Chung has some options.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A house full of butterflies draws these kids in for a closer look and a chance to snap some pics.

"It was flapping its wings and I thought it was really cool," one child said.

Luring long lines here at the Museum of Innovation and Science in Schenectady, thanks to the president's day holiday and for many a week off of school.

Timmy Abbott said, "I'm obsessed with butterflies and I always wanted to see a monarch for like my whole life."

While seven-year-old Timmy Abbott crosses this off his bucket list, parents are grateful for the special exhibit and that on a week where classes are out, there's still stuff for the kids to do.

"We try to do as much as possible in the local community when we have days off," Laurie Myroff said.

Wade Abbott said, "Sometimes those breaks in school can be tough because they're not learning and if we can do something and sneak in some fun and some education at the same time, then all the better."

Fun for the mind is one way to keep kids occupied this break, but don't worry if you want to do something a little more active. There are a lot of options for that, too.

"Today, for instance, is a soccer day. Every day, we try to a different sport," said Kevin Kuon, Senior Program Director of the Schenectady YMCA.

Activities to get the heart racing at the Schenectady YMCA, a popular option for parents who aren't able to take off from work to be with the kids.

Kuon said, "Parents love the opportunity to just be able to drop them off, they know they're in a safe environment and that they're going to have a good time."

Every kid's goal on a day off from school.
