Suspect in Poughkeepsie hostage situation arraigned
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- City of Poughkeepsie police have released more details regarding the hostage situation on Manitou Avenue on Tuesday.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m., police responded to 30 Manitou Avenue for a report of a stabbing. Officers found Antwon Flowers, 33, of Albany inside the residence stabbing two females. Police said at the time there was a full stay away order of protection in effect for one of the women against Flowers.
After the victims fled outside, police said Flowers held his 5-year-old son at knifepoint and shut himself inside the residence. The standoff lasted until about 5 p.m. when Flowers surrendered. The child was taken to an area hospital for a medical evaluation. The stabbing victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Flowers has been charged with two counts of first degree assault, one count of second degree kidnapping, and one count of aggravated criminal contempt. He was arraigned and sent to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
