SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A Schenectady coalition has launched a community-based campaign for the city.

The Schenectady Coalition for a Healthy Community is introducing "UMatter Schenectady" to identify health and social needs for residents.

Community health workers will visit a different city neighborhood every weekend for 12 weeks to conduct a 30 minute survey. City officials ask people take the time to participate in the survey and help them collect data.

"Health is much more than health. It is also about having a safe place to live," said James Connolly, Ellis Medicine President and CEO.

"It’s going to allow us to make the changes and improve the quality of life, both in terms of health and environmental data. That does make this an area people wanna live in and wanna be proud of," said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy.

Survey results will be analyzed and shared with residents.
