WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- After the arrest of a former police officer, the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department is reaching out to the community.
In December, Miguel Rodriguez, 53, was arrested for allegedly conning Latino immigrants. The attorney general's office says Rodriguez, a liaison to the Latino population, was charging immigrants $300 each after promising them a valid New York State driver's license.
Between October 2010 and August 2012, Rodriguez was allegedly paid more than $13,000 as a result of the scam.
The Wappingers Falls Police Department is holding a "Police and Community Together Meeting" on Sunday in hopes of regaining the village's trust. The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on First Avenue.
