SAUGERTIES, N.Y. -- If you have old or unused prescription pills cluttering your medicine cabinet, you can now dispose of them at the Saugerties Police Department.

There is a “Med Return Drop Box” at the station that accepts any and all discontinued, expired or unwanted medications.

The drug drop-off was started after it was discovered that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from the medicine cabinets of family or friends.

Officials say drop-offs are anonymous and all personal information along with the drugs will be destroyed.
