Monticello man facing several charges

PATERSON, N.J. -- A Monticello man is facing several charges after police say he offered a student money for sexual acts. Thomas Weir, 50, is a teacher at John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson, New Jersey.

According to the Passaic County Sheriff's Office, he contacted a student on Facebook and arranged for a meeting at a local restaurant. Police say Weir offered a $50 bribe in exchange for sex.

Weir, a teacher for more than 20 years at the school, is charged with attempted sexual assault, attempted endangering the welfare of a child, luring a child, and official misconduct. He was taken into custody on Saturday, and bail was set at $500,000.
