ALBANY, N.Y. -- The president of the National Rifle Association is expected to be in Albany today to take part in a rally at the state Capitol.

President David Keene will join members of New York State Rifle and Pistol Association and other gun supporters who hope the New York SAFE Act will be repealed. A similar rally on gun control was held earlier this month.

Supporters hope thousands of people will attend today's rally. The rally against the state's gun control law is the third to be held in Albany since the law was signed by Governor Cuomo in January. That law updates the state's assault weapons ban and reduces the number of bullets in a magazine.

Some state lawmakers are planning to introduce amendments to the law that clarify exemptions for law enforcement.

The governor says the SAFE Act is necessary to protect New Yorkers and prevent tragedies such as the one last year in Newtown, Connecticut. Cuomo also says more people will support the law once they fully understand it.
