Felony arrest in Hyde Park
HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Hyde Park police arrested a 20-year-old man who they say cashed over $3,000 in stolen checks.
Police say John Vanleuvan Jr. of Hyde Park stole a wallet from an unlocked car on South Drive at the end of January. In mid-February, police say he stole another check book from a friend and cashed checks from that account.
Vanleuvan is now charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and third degree forgery and petit larceny. He was arraigned and sent to Dutchess County Jail on bail.
Police say they're still looking for another suspect in a series of thefts from unlocked cars and are encouraging people to lock their cars.
